Renewed Or Cancelled?
Blood Sisters is the first ever Nigerian Original on Netflix. It’s a series that blends crime, thriller and drama elements to produce a simple but effective 4 episode romp. There’s certainly a lot to like with this one, and the cliffhanger ending may have you wondering if a sequel has been green-lit.
What is Blood Sisters about?
The story centers on two women, Sarah and Kemi. Sarah is about to get married but unfortunately her husband is abusive and doesn’t take kindly to her ex, Kenny, showing up at the big event. As things escalate, Kemi protects her friend – to devastating results. One singular act sets off a catalyst of unfortunate events, as Sarah is forced to abandon her wedding and go on the run. Between corrupt officials, a shadowy family feud and plenty of drama along the way, Blood Sisters sees Sarah and Kemi made public enemy number 1. Fronting the case is Detective Joe, who soon suspects that there’s more to this story than first meets the eye. Has Blood Sisters been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Blood Sisters has not been renewed for a second season. Given the ending though, that could well change. After all, Blood and Water (another African Original) has been renewed for two seasons. Not only that but (at the time of writing!) Blood Sisters is currently trending on UK Netflix at number 7. Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future. So far, Blood Sisters has had a good reception from both critics and audiences alike, although some people have criticized the show for a bit of a light story. Based on the ending and the mixed reception from audiences, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that Blood Sisters will be renewed for a second season. We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. The conclusion does open things up for a follow-up though. We could see Timeyin decide not to kill her mother, that Femi is actually still alive and didn’t die from his wound, or she could turn the gun on herself (probably not.) Sarah and Kemi are still not out of the woods yet either and Detective Joe could still fail to find enough evidence to get them off the hook.
