What is Country Queen about?
Country Queen is a six episode drama, focusing on Akisa, a woman who has a new life away from her childhood village. When she returns home to visit her ailing father, she finds the place much-changed from before. A mining company has discovered gold nearby and is exploiting the land for its treasure. Akisa finds herself drawn into the middle of this conflict, as she’s forced to confront her past and decide what direction to take her life.
Has Country Queen been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Country Queen has not been renewed for a second season. Given the ending though, that could well change. After all, Country Queen (another African Original) has been renewed for two seasons. Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future. So far, Country Queen has had a pretty mixed reception from both critics and audiences alike, with some criticizing the show for dragging out its story across too many episodes. Based on the ending and Netflix’s continued desire to expand international, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that Country Queen will be renewed for a second season. What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. The conclusion does open things up for a follow-up though. If this one is renewed, expect the story to continue on, with Akisa returning and continuing to fight back against corruption.
