What is Last Light about?
Andy (Fox) has an important personal event coming up. His son, who is bereft of vision, finally has a chance to see the world for the first time, if the upcoming surgery in Paris goes well. Three days before the surgery, he is called away all of a sudden in the dark of the night by his employer, Lizrah Pil & Energy with a crisis. Something is not right with the oil. As it turns out, the problem is worldwide and is swiftly escalating. Only a handful of people in the world can find a solution and Andy is special for a very specific reason. All of the world’s resources and infrastructure are under attack by a rogue organization. The world faces a tall test of time, as it looks for some hope in the face of devastation and doom. We have extensive coverage of Last Light across the site, including recaps for every episode. You can check that out HERE!
Has Last Light been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Last Light has NOT been renewed for a second season. Fans were optimistic that despite having the billing of a limited series, Peacock will renew it for season 2. Fox has an obsessive fan following and seeing him again would have been a tempting idea. Moreover, what supports the cause for season 2 is that the book on which the series is based also has a sequel. British author Alex Scarrow wrote in the aftermath of the world shutting down in Afterlight. Such renewals often come in the face of positive response and viewership numbers, none of which have transpired. The response from the film community at large, including us, has been overwhelmingly negative. Season 1 was laggard in conception and execution, leaving little room for anything meaningful to come out of the story.
What we know about season 2 so far:
It should probably be taken to be carving on the stone that the show will not be renewed. No significant interests are served by going ahead with it. Although the story would be quite interesting and challenging at the same time, if the same people are behind the project then God bear us strength to complete the next season. The aftermath of any crisis carries an inherent element of suspense and intrigue but given how the finale ended with a two-minute montage and voiceover of Andy explaining how the world endured without giving us the specifics, there are no plans, yet. We will keep you posted if the unlikeliest happens, but do not keep your hopes up. Would you like to see Last Light return for a second season? Or do you think the story has run its course?
