Renewed Or Cancelled?
Gloria is the first ever Portuguese Netflix Original series. Set during the Cold War, this 10 episode series dives into the murky world of spies and espionage. There’s a good dose of melodrama and soapy subplots to contend with too.
What is Gloria about?
Gloria is set in the 1960’s, during the height of the Cold War. In the small village of Glória do Ribatejo, Joao Vidal starts working for RARET, becoming the new technical coordinator for the antennas. RARET is a secretive part of Radio Free Europe, with tireless operators working to rebroadcast the network’s programming out into communist countries. The only trouble is, Joao is an agent working for the KGB, who are the enemy, and he’s sent in to recover a tape that could incriminate him and the Russians. What ensues from here though is a cat and mouse game to evade authorities while continuing to follow orders from the authorities. Has Gloria been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Gloria has not been renewed for a second season. Given the open conclusion and Netflix’s desire to branch out into other countries and expand their international catalogue, that could pose well for Gloria. However, Gloria did release on a busy week for Netflix. Narcos: Mexico, The Club and several other big shows all released on the same date. Based on strong critical and audience reception, we predict that Gloria will be renewed. We’ll be sure to update this section with more details over the coming weeks and months!
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix haven’t announced whether this has been renewed or not. However, the open conclusion leaves lots of possibilities for a follow-up. We could see Goncalo working with Henrique to take down the KGB in Lisbon. Given Joao and Carolina were bound to leave the country, they too could be intercepted and stopped from leaving. With RARET blown up, this could see the Portuguese government stepping in to investigate as well. Of course, that’s all speculation at this point.
