Renewed Or Cancelled?
Hellbound is the latest horror k-drama on Netflix, written and directed by Yeon Sang-Ho who helmed both Train to Busan and Peninsula, among several other illustrious projects. With 6 episodes and an open conclusion, there’s certainly a lot to like here, even if the opinions are going to be more of a love/hate divide than an outright pouring of praise.
What is Hellbound about?
A seemingly ordinary day in Korea is turned upside down when strange shadowy creatures show up and hunt down an innocent bystander. Only, he’s presumably not innocent and actually a sinner. It’s around this time that a strange cult-like group called New Truth appear, pedaling these attacks as a message from God and claiming that He has come to cast judgment upon those who deserve it. This narrative comes from the mouth of charismatic but mysterious Jin-Soo, their leader. On the opposite side of the spectrum is Kyung-Hoon, a detective determined to figure out what’s happened. Joining him in this fight is a lawyer called Hye-Jin, who steps up to join in this fight. We have extensive coverage of Hellbound across the site, including episodic recaps and a full season review. Has Hellbound been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, it would appear that Hellbound has been renewed for a second season. According to an article over at South China Morning Post, Hellbound is one of the Netflix K-Dramas that has been given a green-light. Netflix have a good track record with their original K-drama offerings, with Love Alarm, Squid Game and Kingdom the most notable entries to be given the renewal green-light. We’ll be sure to update this section with more details over the coming weeks and months!
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have seemingly only just announced a renewal. It would seem that shooting is expect to start early 2023 with a potential release date set for some time later next year. We could well see a Second Coming of sorts, with Jungja’s return prophesied to be the beginning of the end, or she could well serve a higher purpose in all this. We could also see Jin-Soo returned, or the people turn on New Truth completely and push them out of positions of power. For now, this is all speculation but we’ll have to wait and see what the writers have in store for us! Would you like to see Hellbound return for a second season?
